The first in-person consortium meeting of 2025 took place on January 14th and 15th, bringing the BioSensei partners together at the IMB-CSIC facilities in Barcelona. The event provided an opportunity to update all participants on the progress of the project’s technological developments and ongoing activities. In addition, we hosted several interactive workshops to collaboratively address challenges within the project – and beyond – in the rapidly advancing interdisciplinary fields of chip-, sensor- and biotechnology.
As part of the agenda, a stakeholder workshop organized by IMB-CSIC welcomed representatives from Pepsico, Cork City Council, and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). These stakeholders, representing end-users of the BioSensei technology, provided valuable feedback on the measurement data required for target analytes, specifically focusing on reference methods. This exchange was instrumental in ensuring the project remains aligned with user needs and maintains realistic goals and expectations.
The consortium partners were also divided into three focus groups, previously identified during the last in-person meeting and the Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) workshop in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. These groups tackled key topics requiring innovative, interdisciplinary approaches. Through these parallel discussions, the community advanced its holistic goals, fostering collaboration and progress toward the project’s objectives.
Finally, a co-creation workshop explored the pressing themes of digitalization and automation—emerging areas that are reshaping research workflows. While these technologies are transforming scientific processes, their long-term implications remain uncertain. The workshop aimed to unravel and debate these potential impacts, fostering cross-disciplinary dialogue to address the “black box” of challenges and opportunities they present.
