- What is your contribution to the project (what’s your project part about)?
Cork County Council (CCC) are providing the Irish case study for the BioSensei project. CCC works closely with research centres in Ireland and particularly in the SW region. For the BioSensei project CCC will facility secure and safe access to a waterway in Cork harbour a designated Special Protection Area. CCC will provide laboratory-based analysis of grab samples from the demonstration site to assist in the validation of result gathered from the deployed biosensors.
- What’s the benefit/opportunity for society from the BioSensei research project?
BioSensei will provide early detection of the presence of harmful pollutants in our waterways. This will allow for early intervention and reduce costs by reducing both labour and frequency of acquiring and analysing grab samples.
- What are the scientific advancements you most look forward to in this field of research? CCC welcomes innovative novel technology, especially those that assist public bodies in the early detection of pollutants, reduce costs and allow for early intervention.
